The Turkey Trot Course
Our 5K Fun Run/Walk is certified by “USA Track & Field” as 5 kilometers. It originates at the corner of Pershing Drive and N. Highland St. in Arlington. ( 5K is 3.1 miles.) - map
What's the race's mission?
The race's mission is to provide an opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy a fun, healthy Thanksgiving activity together, and to raise support for three local charities: Arlington-Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless (AACH), Doorways for Women & Families, and Arlington Food Assistance Center.
What can you expect?
Participants -- young and old, human and canine -- meander through the Lyon Park and Ashton Heights neighborhoods. Some racers wear the popular race T-shirt while others wear leftover Halloween costumes, turkey and pilgrim garb, or even Christmas attire. It’s not uncommon to see adults with poultry on their heads or Santas running with their elves! See some past photos.
Where does the money go?
Christ Church of Arlington donates all net proceeds from the event to three local charities. Over the past five years the race has raised more than $100,000 for the charities. (Read about the presentation of checks in 2010) Funding from sponsors also plays a great roll in raising donations. If you or your business is interested in supporting or sponsoring the Turkey Trot, please contact CCA today at (703) 527-0420 or email us.
How many folks participate?
In 2006, only 300 people were in the first race. By 2010, more than 2,300 entered the race ... and the number keeps growing! For the 2011 race, we expect around 2,900 people to register.
What should I wear?
Your Turkey Trot T-shirt, of course! Get it at Packet Pick-up. Check the weather to see if you should wear a long-sleeve shirt under it. That's what most folks do. Then again, some wear costumes.
What does the t-shirt look like this year?
It's cool.
Check it out.
What about water?
A water station is on the route for your thirsty convenience! You also can get water and snacks at the end of the race at Lyon Park.
How fast are the runners?
..
This is a turkey race, not a chicken race! You can do it!

What about PRIZES!!!?
The prize ceremony will be held following the race at Lyon Park (414 N. Fillmore) to recognize the top three male and female finishers overall and the top three male and female finishers in multiple age groups. No stroller prizes.
What about bathrooms?
Thanks to one of our sponsors, Don's Johns, fresh portable restrooms will be located near the beginning and the end of the race.
What about parking?
On-street parking is available in the neighborhood.
Is the course safe?
The Arlington Police Department works closely with CCA to ensure safety. Police and volunteers guide runners/walkers and divert automobile traffic from the route. Medical personnel are on call for treatment, if necessary.
