I mentioned the “tongue-exercise” in
a sermon one Sunday and suggested that you attempt it. For the brave
among us, here is how the “tongue-exercise” works:
For one week do not:
-- Gossip
-- Complain
-- Criticize
-- Blame-shift (or make excuses)
-- Defend yourself
-- Boast
-- Deceive others
Instead, do:
-- Witness regularly
-- Affirm others
-- Express gratitude and praise
-- Apologize quickly
-- Speak directly & honestly to people
For the first couple of days keep a record of your failures. The
purpose of this exercise is to help you see the need that each of
us has for the gospel every single day, and our accompanying need
for Jesus. Our words reveal what our hearts are truly like. Praise
God for His grace, which is continually available for sinners.
PSALM
19:14
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be
acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.
May
the Lord’s
grace and peace be with you,
Brian
